{"id":69,"date":"2019-05-07T15:04:30","date_gmt":"2019-05-07T15:04:30","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/sodsciencemt.com\/?page_id=69"},"modified":"2021-06-17T03:25:16","modified_gmt":"2021-06-17T03:25:16","slug":"sod-care-guidelines","status":"publish","type":"page","link":"https:\/\/sodsciencemt.com\/?page_id=69","title":{"rendered":"Sod Care Guidelines"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/drive.google.com\/file\/d\/1yQRnt9lH9eeV0-4U-96V328lXr2b0ZMk\/view?usp=sharing\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" aria-label=\" (opens in a new tab)\">Print-Friendly PDF<\/a><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p style=\"background-color:#89c140;color:#ffffff\" class=\"has-text-color has-background has-large-font-size\"><strong>Weeks 1 &#8211; 2<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong><em>STIMULATE ROOT GROWTH<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul><li>Immediately water sod upon installation.&nbsp; Water until it feels spongy to the step.<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<ul><li>Keep sod and soil (3-4 in. of top soil) moist all throughout the day.&nbsp; Water at least twice\/day for 15-20 minutes (depending on coverage).&nbsp; If the sod edges are pulling apart, you are not watering enough.&nbsp; Do not let it dry out.&nbsp; <\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<ul><li>Limit non-essential foot traffic. <\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p style=\"background-color:#89c140;color:#ffffff\" class=\"has-text-color has-background has-large-font-size\"><strong>Weeks 3 &#8211; 4<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong><em>ESTABLISH DEEP ROOTS<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul><li>Reduce frequency of waterings, while increasing the length of each watering.&nbsp; At a minimum, water every other day for at least 30 minutes.&nbsp; In hot and arid conditions, continue with daily watering.&nbsp; <\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<ul><li>Mow your grass ~14 days after installation, when your sod is approx. 3.5 in. tall.&nbsp; Mowing low causes great stress to new sod.&nbsp; Take no more than one-third of the grass length with each mowing.&nbsp; <\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p style=\"background-color:#89c140;color:#ffffff\" class=\"has-text-color has-background has-large-font-size\"><strong>Other Tips<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul><li>Water in the early morning.&nbsp; Watering at night may lead to an increase in mushrooms due to prolonged moisture on grass overnight.<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<ul><li>The edges of your lawn will dry out first. When too dry, the dark green hue of Kentucky Blue Grass tends to get a slight blue hue before turning yellow. Give extra water to the edges if you notice a difference in color with the rest of the lawn. <\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<ul><li>A sprinkler will give much more even coverage than you can hand watering.
